Bedford put on show for the ladies in thriller

- ■ By CIARAN THOMAS

BEDFORD Blues celebrated Ladies Day at Goldington Road in style, running in six tries to win a thrilling encounter with the Dragons and take maximum points, while Dragons also claimed a try bonus point.

An error strewn opening quarter from Bedford saw the Dragons kick two early penalties, while the hosts’ George Perkins fumbled what looked a certain try, and they also saw another score chalked off.

But after a frustrating 27 minutes, the home side burst into life when Tom Griffiths scored after claiming an interception, with Tom Whiteley adding a second try soon after

A third penalty saw Dragons pull the score back to 14-9 at half-time and they started a breathless second half by taking the lead as Arwel Robson went over.

Bedford would edge back ahead with a penalty, before Whiteley ran the length of the pitch for his second try, and shortly after the Blues forwards drove over from a line-out catch and drive, Sam James with the try.

The match was now being played at a frantic pace, as Will-Talbot Davies hit back with a try but two Bedford tries in four minutes proved deceive.

Jordan Burns showed great pace to set up Elliot Clements-Hill before Perkins atoned for his earlier error.

Dragons kept fighting and were rewarded as Barney Nightingale scored two tries in the final ten minutes to ensure they took a bonus point back to Wales.
