Tynedale stutter in final 30 minutes

- ■ By JOHN LYON

TYNEDALE were competitive for 50 minutes and then collapsed against an impressive Caldy.

Two first-half tries from Nick Royle and one at the end of the half by evergreen scrum-half John Broxson, together with a further five points from the boot of Rhys Hayes, kept the scoreboard ticking over for the home side.

Rob Parker kicked a couple of penalties for the visitors to leave the halftime scoreline at a respectable 21 -6

Energised Tynedale scored shortly after the restart through hooker Jamie Blamire to put the visitors close at 21- 13.

A ten-minute period of constant pressure on the Caldy line should have resulted in a couple more scores for Tynedale but the tenacious Caldy defence held out and from that point Tynedale were in trouble.

A penalty by Hayes was added to through a penalty try in the 65th minute.

And then in quick succession a further four tries from Hayes, Jack Collister, Forbes Edward and Josiah Dickinson left the final score Caldy 56 Tynedale 13.

Caldy had too much power up front and out wide for a game Tynedale side who never stopped trying but were eventually outmuscled and out thought by the impressive home side.
