Late drama as Wright dives over for the win

- GEOFF LIGHTFOOT

A LATE try by James Wright sealed victory for Doncaster in an ill-tempered match at Castle Park

Tied 19-19 with seconds to play, Wright squeezed over in the corner with a Jamie Lennard conversion adding gloss to the victory.

Doncaster fly-half Jamie Lennard kicked a penalty in an uneventful first 20 minutes before Cleckheaton sprang into life with wing Oliver Depledge stepped the defence to score a fine try.

Tempers spilled over on the half hour mark with Cleckheaton’s Andy Piper and Phoenix’s Andy Ellis both shown red cards for exchanging punches.

Depledge added a second try and Cleckheaton were ahead 12-3 at half-time. Lennard it a second penalty before Martin Protheroe picked from the back of the scrum to rumble 25m.

Cleck hit back with a try from James Wilson for a 1913 lad but Lennard levelled with two more penalties before Wright dived over for the win.
