Gritty Bristol cling onto perfect record

- ■ By NICK VERDIER

BRISTOL maintained their unbeaten start to the season by giving

Lichfield their first taste of defeat at Cleve RFC last Sunday.

Both sides headed into the match in fine form with four wins from four, but it was the West Country side who made it five from five on the back of a hard-fought 19-15 win.

They scored three tries from Chantelle Miell, Claire Molloy and Izzy Noel-Smith while Amber Reed and Elinor Snowsill added crucial conversions.

“It was an absolutely amazing win, we’ve put a lot of hard work into this season and it all came into fruition there,” said Bristol wing Tilly Vaughan Fowler.

Lichfield grabbed a losing bonus point thanks to 10 points from England scrum-half Natasha Hunt and a penalty try, and they now trail leaders Bristol at the top by three points.

Lichfield captain Justine Lucas said: “We

knew it would be our toughest game to date but we had done our homework and defended well for the majority of the game.”

Worcester scored six tries as they stormed to a 36-13 victory over Darlington Mowden Park

Sharks at Sixways. Bianca Blackburn gave them an early lead before the visitors hit back through a Katy McLean penalty and a Rebekah Wilson try for an 8-5 lead at the break.

Courtney Gill edged the hosts in front at the start of the second half but a fine move finished by La Toya Mason put the Sharks back ahead on 54th minutes.

However, tries from Heather Fisher, Samantha Bree, Ceri Large and Lisa Campbell in the last 20 minutes inspired the hosts to rally for a convincing victory which also secured the try bonus-point.

Aylesford Bulls managed to secure a 17-5 victory over Richmond thanks to tries from Leanne Riley, Rebecca Rowe and Shaughna Brown.
