Exmouth up and running in derby triumph

EXMOUTH celebrated a first win this season after a dominant second half put their old rivals away.

After a slow start, Barnstaple snatched the lead just before half-time but despite playing half the second period with 14 men because of yellow cards for George Savage and Matt Ryan, Exmouth outscored the visitors by 21 points.

Exmouth made a bright start and were rewarded when Harvey Ridgeway scored from Henry Goldson’s clever kick through.

Barnstaple got themselves into the game with two Jordan Petherbrid­ge penalties before George Meadows made it 10-6.

Barnstaple finished the half on top, though, and went ahead when Jake Murphy popped a pass to Linford Brock to score wide on the right and Petherbrid­ge converted.

Barnstaple made it 20-20 in the 57th minute when Ben Hilton stepped out of a ruck to score and Petherbrid­ge converted – but from then on it was all Exmouth.

Prop Isaac Dalton smuggled the ball over the try-line, then a Petherbrid­ge kick was charged down and the ball looped to Wathes for the bonuspoint try.

Richard Cady then made Exmouth’s first win safe with a couple of penalties.
