Canterbury led on Wild Geese chase
GEORGE Owen scored four tries to inspire London Irish Wild Geese to a magnificent win over Canterbury, with Tyler Bush grabbing the winning try.
Bush chased his own charge-down to score the crucial try ten minutes from time as Irish held off a determined Canterbury late on.
Owen scored four and was the outstanding player on the field, a performance that will give the Canterbury back-line nightmares for a long while yet.
The first half saw the Geese start quickly with a try after two minutes, as fan favourite Owen collected a beautiful chip from Peter Hodgkinson to touch down.
Hodgkinson’s running and kicking and Owen’s penetrative pacy runs saw the hosts stand out in the first half but silly errors in the Irish defence allowed Canterbury flyhalf Oliver Best to score three penalties.
Owen had completed his hat-trick by half-time only for opposite number Harry Sayers to reply with a try of his own, making it 17-16 at the break.
Canterbury started the second half quickly as Aiden Moss crossed before two more Best penalties.
Owen then got his fourth before Bush’s late intervention, Thomas Best’s yellow card proving costly for Canterbury.
