Students shocked by Esher reaction
ESHER gained a valuable bonus point win over Loughborough Students, at Molesey Road, to make their league position a lot more comfortable as three of the five sides below them lost.
Trailing by 22 points a minute into the second half, the home crowd thought it was all over for Esher.
But replacement scrum-half Andrew Garner had other ideas, galvanising his side to not just a recovery, but a much-needed win.
Getting decisions right with several powerful runs and some quick thinking, he scored a brace of tries and one of his breaks created a score for Archie White.
Spencer Sutherland, working hard as usual, also collected a worthy score. While Stephen Boatman claimed all the extras and two penalties.
For the first 41 minutes Loughborough were in total charge, with Gair Currie opening their account on the 17th minute following a powerful run from Kehinde Olowofela who, ten minutes later, made another sweet run and this time finished it himself.
As the second half started Rotimi Segun weaved his way through to score under the sticks, with Will Kaye converting two of Loughborough’s three scores. But Esher kicked into gear to take the win.
