Gunn show fires visitors to narrow win

- ■ By ALEX DAVIDSON

Leicester stole the points at the death in this tight encounter, with Luctonians once again conceding late scores when in the ascendancy.

Calum Gunn and Chris Gibbs tries for South Leicester, both converted by the prolific Rickie Aley, saw them reverse a 29-17 deficit with the clock running down as the gloom descended. It left the home fans scratching their heads as the points drifted out of their hands.

Lucs’ excellent start saw them lead after 20 minutes with tries from Rod CrowSOUTH ley and Alex Smith, but the visitors’ response was to up their game. Their pack, who dominated throughout, brought them back into the game to lead through a penalty try and a Ryan Hough effort,Aley converting both with some ease.

A penalty just before half

time from Louis Silver gave the home crowd some optimism and they went in 15-14 to the good.

Jordan Street’s try from close range and Piers Morell’s determination saw Lucs sprint into what appeared to be an unassailable advantage in the early stages of the second half.

Indeed at 29-17, Aley having kicked a penalty for South Leicester, they looked home and dry.

But the never-say-die attitude of their opponents and too many mistakes from the home side late in the game allowed them to take full advantage to secure the five points.
