Cornish boy breaks home county hearts

Redruth .......... 18 Taunton ........ 22

- ■ By BILL HOOPER

CORNISHMAN Lewis Webb scored Taunton’s winning try as the Somerset side fought back to take the spoils in a pulsating West Country derby.

Despite losing lock Luke Hattam within a minute of the kick-off, Redruth bounced back to take the lead with an unconverted try through Chris Fuca.

Taunton soon got back on terms when Dan Frost bagged the first of his double following good work from Webb. Gary Kingdom added the extras.

The Redruth pack looked to boss the game with Tommy Phillips again showing well in the front row, while Kyle Marriott and Brad Howe consistently made good ground.

From a scrum near the Taunton line the visitors infringed once too often as referee Luke Haskins awarded a penalty try converted by Angus Taylor.

Kingdom kicked a penalty from the final action of an eventful first half to leave Taunton trailing 12-10 at the interval.

Redruth looked to build from the restart but were undone by an interception that saw Frost out-pace the cover from 60 metres to score in the corner.

Taylor then kicked a couple of penalties to put Redruth back into a narrow lead with the game in the final quarter.

But Taunton pressure paid off when Webb squeezed over to snatch back the lead, Kingdom adding the extras for good measure.
