Wish there had been Six Nations try-bonus in my day!
I WAS sceptical when I saw the Six Nations were bringing in bonus points, but the fact that Grand Slam winners will always claim the trophy has given me hope for the future.
With anything like this, we will have to wait and see exactly what difference it makes to the tournament, but it is encouraging that teams will have to go out and score points.
I might have scored more tries if they implemented it when I was playing! But it is good to see they are actively trying to change things.
We saw just how exciting the Six Nations can be in 2015 when Wales, England, Ireland and France could all win the trophy and had to go out and rack up as many points as possible.
Wales kicked off with a 61-20 victory in Italy to set the tone for the best day of Six Nations rugby ever.
Ireland hammered Scotland by 30 points to snatch the title before England scored 55 points against France but still fell short.
Hopefully the introduction of bonus points will see teams going for results like these week after week, and not just when they need to at the end of a tournament.
It should be a success, but with anything like this, we have to wait and see before making a judgement.
The international sides know that defence alone cannot win you games anymore, and even with the new rules, an attacking revolution is already up and running.
Gone are the days of kicking a few penalties and holding out for the win.
Teams know they have to go out there and play with width to score tries and rack up the points if they are to win at Test match level.
