Caven hat-trick leaves Salisbury trailing

National League 3 South West

-

CAMBORNE bounced back from last week’s defeat to remain at the head of the table following a 3217 win over Brixham.

The league leaders put in an emphatic second-half performance to fight back from 7-6 down at the break replying through Josh Semmens, Jake Simmons, David Mankee and Murray Western. Old Redcliffians

remain hot on the leaders’ heels and made it four wins on the bounce thanks to a 52-18 victory over injury-hit Salisbury.

Winger Ezra Caven was the star man for the titlechasers, running over a hat-trick of tries before further tries by James Clement, Scott Parson, Ethan Doyle and Henry Bird sealed the win.

Dings Crusaders are still on the tails of the top two after taking away a 2414 victory from Hornets, despite Oscar Jones running over and a penalty try being handed to the hosts.

Ivybridge also remain within touching distance of the leaders after recording an emphatic 46-17 win over

Cleve – running over six tries.

Inside centre Billy Pinkus crossed for a hattrick of tries with further scores by Jonny Morgan, Damien Ackerman and replacement Nathan Reeves. Newton Abbot beat Bournemouth with a try with the last play of the match to snatch an 18-17 victory.

However, it was the visitors who looked in control of the tie early in the match with Jack Henning, winger Wynn Roberts and Sam Hardcastle putting them ahead despite some strong kicking from the reliable Rob Avery-Wright.

Luke Kenny ran over to pull Newton Abbot within distance of their visitors before, with the last play, a driving maul was finished off by Kyle Brown to sneak the victory.

One try could have helped Lydney’s survival chances greatly as they ran out 11-6 winners over fellow strugglers Launceston.

Both sides kicked two penalties but the game’s only try gives Lydney an 11point margin over the bottom three sides.

Elsewhere Bracknell ran out clear winners, scoring six tries in a 41-13 victory at Bromsgrove with second row Lachlan Valentine running over a brace in an impressive personal showing.
