Bulls run riot over high-flying Bristol

-

HEAD coach Roy Davies tried to remain positive as

Bristol fell to their first defeat of the season last Sunday.

With their star players away on international duties, the league leaders travelled to the Stoop to take on Aylesford Bulls, who became Harlequins in all but name over the summer, and suffered a 515 defeat.

Bristol were confident in the strength and depth of their squad after successful Cup and 2nd XV results over the last few weeks, but Aylesford started well scoring four unanswered tries and a penalty in the first-half to lead 27-0 at the break.

A yellow card for a deliberate knock-on meant Bristol had the advantage at the start of the second-half and they managed to score a try through Chantelle Miell.

But that was as good as it got as Aylesford pulled away with four more tries to secure the bonus-point win.

Davies said: “It was a tough day in the office for our young team, and our accuracy let us down. Aylesford were quick and able to capitalise early on and build a good platform.

“It’s always hard to get a result when you lose the physical battle but I can’t fault our players work rate and character and they were brave enough to try and keep playing positive rugby up until the final whistle.” In the other game,

Wasps claimed their first win of the season beating fellow strugglers Darlington MP 34-22. Arch-rivals Richmond and Saracens will lock horns at the Athletic Ground today while Bristol will look to return to winning ways against

Worcester Valkyries and Aylesford travel to Darlington.
