Bedwas suffer setback after throwing lead away
Cross Keys .... 15 Bedwas ............ 11
BEDWAS slipped to fifth in the Premiership after they threw away an 11-5 advantage to lose away at Cross Keys.
Results elsewhere meant Bedwas fell down two positions from third after Josh Prosser and Joe Goodchild’s second-half tries proved decisive.
The Keys started strongly, but could not break through a determined Bedwas defence. James Dixon put the visitors ahead with a well taken penalty in the 21st minute.
The hosts kicked away possession in a number of promising positions as Bedwas edged a closely fought first-half and led 3-0 at the break.
But Bedwas failed to hold onto that advantage as the Keys opened the second half scoring with a superb breakaway try. Matthew Powell intercepted on his own line and ran the length of the pitch before off-loading the ball to Nathan Williams, who put Prosser in for an unconverted try.
Bedwas hit back with a Geraint Edmunds try and a Dixon penalty extended their lead to 11-5.
But the Keys would not back down and returned into the lead in the 66th minute through Prosser’s conversion after Goodchild’s score. The fly-half soon capped off the win with a penalty five minutes from time as the battle for a place in the league's top eight heats up.
