Rebel looking for return to London

-

MELBOURNE Rebels scrumhalf Nic Stirzaker could be returning to London with Saracens interested in signing him when he is out of contract next year.

The Rebels ace, who was born in the capital to South African parents before moving to Australia aged two, is attracting serious interest from the Premiership.

Stirzaker, 25, has been playing for the Super Rugby franchise since 2012 and has clocked up 48 appearances.

He captained the Rebels in the last Super Rugby season after replacing the departed Scott Higginbotham as squad skipper.

Saracens see him as a potential replacement for Richard Wigglesworth who is attracting interest from French sides Lyon and Toulon.

Stirzaker has a UK passport which means that a host of clubs are looking into signing him when his deal with the Rebels ends.

Northampton Saints are another club to have taken a close look while Bath boss Todd Blackadder, who knows him from Super Rugby, is being updated with developments.

Stirzaker also has experience of playing in New Zealand’s ITM Cup with Manawatu Turbos three years ago and has expressed an interest of moving abroad once again.

Stirzaker could also interest England coach Eddie Jones as he is qualified to play for the Red Rose, the country of his birth, as well as South Africa and Australia.

He has been on the radar of Wallabies coach Michael Cheika for sometime and has been tipped as a future international for the last 18 months.
