Robson’s the hero with late clincher

- ■ By JAMES LLOYD

ARWEL Robson kept his nerve with the final kick of the game to give Dragons their first cup win of the season.

Rob O’Donnell’s try had given Carnegie a 20-15 lead with seven minutes to play, but fly-half Robson darted over late and stayed cool to land the conversion and steal the points.

It was the Men of Gwent who came out of the blocks firing as they raced into an early lead.

Hooker Darran Harris made a break, waltzed his way through the defence and the ball was eventually recycled to Joe Goodchild who went over in the corner. Robson missed the conversion and saw a penalty cannon off the uprights soon after.

A turgid half ensued but the drama came just before the break. Warren Seals intercepted on his own line and raced up field, with Brandon Staples eventually going over after quick hands.

On the stroke of half time Henri Williams was sin-binned and Seals knocked over the penalty to give Yorkshire the lead. Chris Walker’s try added to that before Robson hit back with a penalty.

Dragons battered Yorkshire at the scrum and Charlie Beech was sent to the bin. Minutes later the hosts had their reward when Nathan Hudd bruised his way over with Robson splitting the uprights to tie the game.

Carnegie bit back with O’Donnell on the end of a brutal drive but Robson stole the show.
