We can’t let Exiles race away - Pirates

-

A SPIRITED second-half last week proved Cornish Pirates have what it takes to compete against London Irish but fly-half Will Cargill has now challenged his troops to do it from kickoff in the return leg today.

Irish raced to a 26-10 lead at the break but the Pirates responded and, although they lost 33-24, they ‘won’ the second half 14-7.

Now Cargill has called for a better start in order to redeem themselves at the Mennaye where they were beaten by Richmond two weeks ago.

“You don’t usually get a week where you play the same team in the space of two weekends so we have a chance to have another go at Irish,” he told TRP.

“We weren’t brave enough in the first half and Irish built their lead.

“The second half was a big improvement so hopefully we can carry on from there and give our fans something to smile about after that defeat against Richmond.”

Following his faultless kicking display, Cargill retains the No.10 shirt while co-head coach Alan Paver sits on the bench as front row cover and dualregistered Exeter centre Max Bodilly will make his first appearance of the season.

Irish have been boosted by the return of club captain Luke Narraway who hadn’t played since the opening round of the season due to a hip injury.

There are two other changes with prop Richard Palframan and Ross Neal also starting.

Director of rugby Nick Kennedy said: “As we experienced last month in the league, Penzance is a difficult place to play your rugby. We’ll need to be switched on mentally if we’re to get a result.”
