Scunthorpe hold the aces with just 14 men
SCUNTHORPE got off to a flying start, scoring in the first minute from a try Colin Chapman, and never looked back.
Flanker James Dyson offloaded and Chapman finished in the corner. Steve Johnson missed a dif- ficult touchline conversion.
Tigers’ potent back three were always dangerous on the counter attack.
This proved the case when, from a Scunthorpe scrum in the Tigers’ 22, the ball was given away. A mispass from fly-half Angus Bowyer created an overlap and the Tigers’ speedster Henry Packard raced in from 40 metres. This was converted by Bowyer.
Scunthorpe’s pack were soon pressurising their South Yorkshire opponents, who conceded two penalties to Johnson and had two men yellowcarded.
The 13 men still looked
an attacking force and scored a well-taken try for a 12-11 half-time lead.
After the break, Scunthorpe carried on where they had left off and Ashley Dibden powered over but then suffered a yellow card.
Tigers battered the Scunthorpe try line but a resolute defence held them at bay. Scunthorpe then kicked deep and Nick Dyson went over for the decider. Cook converted.
Johnson received a second yellow card and was dismissed, but battling Scunthorpe sealed the victory at the death with a Cook penalty.
