WELLINGTON College had already sealed a third Daily Mail Trophy title in a row but they put the final touch to a fine season with a 34-0 thumping of Marlborough College last weekend.

It was a special day for the famous Berkshire school but also for their long-time coach Kevin Brennan, who was in charge of his final game.

Wellington’s consistency proved key as they won 11 of their 12 games including a crucial 20-19 victory over second-placed Harrow. Their only defeat came at the hands of Whitgift in a narrow 15-14 loss.

Brennan said: “Winning at Harrow was big. Not so much the way we played, but they were unbeaten and we had to adapt our game from the usual way we play.

“The squad has worked incredibly hard. They have shown great maturity and individual leadership.”

Sedbergh produced a strong 48-3 win over Llandovery College to seal third in the Daily Mail Trophy.

Cranleigh overcame Whitgift 18-3while Bedford put to bed the disappointment of last week’s Champions Trophy final defeat with a 21-15 victory over Abingdon.

Bromsgrove beat Warwick 24-3 and Canford secured their highest ever position in the Daily Mail Trophy, finishing sixth with a 36-12 victory over Bishop Wordsworth’s.

St John’s Leatherhead came back from Epsom College with a 15-10 win over their rivals.

In the North East RGS Newcastle beat rivals Barnard Castle 39-14 and Hampton defeated Dulwich 34-14.
