Rams get better of Geese as prediction rings true

The final half-hour, however, saw the scoreboard dominated by Rams. Spike Chandler utilised Dan Barnes’ excellent run to score a try of his own. And captain Robbie Stapley scored soon after with a pick-and-go try, smashing through the Wild Geese defensive line – Chandler converting both.

A penalty in the closing moments iced the win for Rams in front of their home crowd, sending them into the break on a high. “IF WE don’t get on top of them up front, they’ll kill us out wide,” warned Redingensi­ans Rams CEO Gary Reynolds pre-match.

It’s a threat that London Irish Wild Geese were keen to make clear after Harry Rowland scored in the fourth minute – Ollie Turner picking up the extras to punish Rams for their messy start.

The home side reduced their deficit with Greg Illingwort­h’s excellent chip-and-collect try in the left-hand corner. Spike Chandler missing the conversion but kicking a penalty minutes later.

Wild Geese returned the favour with a chip over Rams’ defensive line to provide George Owen with a try in the left corner – Turner again converting.

But Rams retook the lead with two tries, both scored by Jak Rossiter on the right wing and converted by Chandler.
