Malone’s a happy man as Munster dominate
MUNSTER boosted their chances of a home draw in the quarter-finals as they produced a highly impressive display at Castle Park where the Knights were beaten by four tries to two.
The Irish team, who have now won all three games in Pool 2, made certain of victory by scoring two interception tries in only four minutes in the second half.
As Doncaster, behind by 14-7, launched counterattacks, they twice lost control as Munster’s sharp thinking ruined any hopes they then had of breaking through the Irish defence.
Winger Calvin Nash intercepted a pass and ran 60 metres on 55 minutes and then in the 59th, another Doncaster attack broke down when replacement centre Cian Bohane grabbed the ball as it was being distributed.
Suddenly, Munster were well on top and leading 28-12.
Doncaster hit back to score a thrilling try from winger Sam Edgerley on 67 minutes, but the Championship club couldn’t match the class and composure of the Irish province.
“This was our best performance of the season so far. We are delighted and our defence in the first half against Doncaster pressure was really strong and positive,” said Munster’s coach Peter Malone.
“Our captain, Robin Copeland, showed his international class and he inspired the younger members of the side.”
