Dings Cruising to title after another win

National League 3 South West

-

DINGS CRUSADERS took what could be a decisive step towards the National League 3 South West title.

The Bristol side ran over six tries during a 40-13 victory over Bromsgrove thanks to scores by Ben Bolster, Ashley Challenger, Tom Knight, Harry Tovey, Sylvan Edwards and Marlon Dorsett. Old Redcliffians failed to match the leaders as

they slipped to a 9-8 surprise defeat at the hands of Lydney.

Lydney were 6-0 ahead early on through a couple of Tony Wicks kicks before Harvey Skelton slotted a penalty back for the visitors.

Scott Coter had looked to have won it for the Old Reds with the game’s only try, but a penalty kick at the death secured the hosts an important and somewhat unlikely win. Salisbury took what could be a crucial 27-19 victory at Bracknell to give their survival chances a huge boost.

The visitors started with a bang going into a 20-7 lead at half-time thanks to a couple of tries by flanker Matt Dawson, along with two conversions and a penalty kicked from Tom Lane.

Bracknell responded with two tries from left winger Ben Yates but Dawson scored his hattrick to put the game beyond any doubt for Salisbury.

Lancestone also gave any survival hopes a boost with a surprise 23-16 over Ivybridge. Hornets ran over seven tries on their new artificial pitch with the hosts scrum dominant in a 45-6 win over Camborne.

Ozzy James ran over for a try double for Hornets while further tries came from Kieran Ward, Charlie Carter, Joe Gadd, Sean Disney and Matt Parker.

With not a point to separate them in the league

Brixham and

Bournemouth somewhat fittingly played out a 29-29 bonus point draw.

Scrum-half Martin Worthington ran over a first-half double for Brixham while Tom McLean and Elliot Bryers also scored. In reply Peter Roberts also went over twicefor Bournemouth while Jack Hennings also dotted downbefore Alexander Everett-Bolter equalised late on.

Finally, Newton Abbot beat Cleve 36-32 in a thrilling encounter.
