National League 3 South West

-

OLD REDCLIFFIANS hit back in the race for the National League 3 South West title going joint top on points thanks to a 21-8 victory over Cleve.

After losing two of their last three, the title hopefuls made no mistake on this occasion, running away with a clear victory.

Dings, who looked to have stolen a march in the title race last week, slipped to a 27-10 defeat at the hands of Newton Abbot.

Tom White opened the try scoring for Abbot before Steve Plummer responded to put Dings 10-8 ahead at the break.

However, the hosts controlled the second half with flanker Martyn Brown going over early to take the lead, before Dean Avery added a third and a late penalty try gave them a bonus-point victory.

Camborne sit just behind the top two sides and, after losing heavily at

Hornets last week, they returned to winning ways with a 25-18 victory against Ivybridge.

A brace of tries by James Goldsworthy helped them to victory with Rhys Brownfield also running over.

In reply, Ivybridge scores came via Alex Hall and Seb Slade with Billy Pinkus kicking the extras to earn a losing bonus point.

In the battle of the strugglers Salisbury ran out 14-7 winners over Launceston thanks to tries by Matt Dawson and Jon Goldsmith, with Tom Lane converting both.

In reply the visitors’ points came courtesy of a Ryan Westren try and Frazier Honey conversion, but it was not enough to overcome their hosts.

Bournemouth ran out convincing 42-8 winners over Lydney with Frederick Gleadowe opening the scoring within the opening minutes, before Gareth Roberts got a double to put them 22-0 ahead at the break.

They continued in the same fashion in the second half with Jack Hennings, Robert Boyd and Grant Hancox adding further tries.

Josh Holt scored a pair of tries as basement side

Brixham thanks to tries by Ben Sanderson, Jasper Miranda and Ian Birch to secure victory.
