Moseley set to part with coach Maggs

-

COST-CUTTING measures are set to see Birmingham Moseley director of rugby Kevin Maggs part company with the club after seven years at the helm.

Former Bath, Bristol and Ireland centre Maggs joined Moseley in 2010 and steered the West Midlands outfit to their best-ever Championship finish of seventh in 2013-14.

Maggs was promoted from head coach to director of rugby in 2015, but relegation last season and the subsequent loss of £530,000 in RFU funding has led the club’s directors to conclude they can no longer support full-time staff in National League One.

Birmingham Moseley were banking on an early return to the Championship, but Hartpury College’s runaway leadership of the division has rendered that a forlorn hope.

Maggs is contracted until the end of this season but will now look for work elsewhere.

Assistant coach and former hooker Richard Protherough is the favourite to take over.
