Poland’s late poach makes Knights pay

-

MUNSTER booked a home quarter-final with a second win in six days over Doncaster.

The Irish, who won 2812 at Castle Park last Saturday in the postponed fixture, will end the pool stage unbeaten.

Doncaster started well and took a deserved lead with an early penalty from Dougie Flockhart. The wing was on target again on 20 minutes, after fly-half Te Toma had levelled the scores, but Munster put their foot down thereafter.

The first try came down the left when Stephen Fitzgerald ducked under the defence to touch down after some crisp passing in midfield. Toma added a touchline conversion.

The second score came on the last play of the half with skipper Cian Bohane bursting over from close range which saw the hosts lead 17-6 at the break.

Flockhart reduced the deficit with a third penalty on 53 minutes and the Knights twice went close to a try but they were made to pay for their lack of accuracy when scrumhalf John Poland darted down two minutes from time.

Doncaster had the last word when replacement Sam Edgerley cashed in on good work by Andy Bulumakau and Simon Humberstone to score a last-minute converted try.

It had no impact on the result however and they will now be looking to end their campaign on high next week with a derby win over Rotherham.
