Salisbury scramble in with Tom’s decider
TOM Lane’s long-range penalty at the death gave
Salisbury a nail-biting 1614 win over Camborne.
Josh Semmens’ try and a penalty from Rhys Brownfield gave the visitors an 8-6 lead at half-time, with a couple of penalties from Lane keeping Salisbury in it.
Brownfield slotted over two more penalties to give his side a 14-6 advantage with ten minutes left, but Dave Tonge’s converted try narrowed the gap to a single point.
And Lane powered the hosts to an unlikely victory with a penalty just inside the Camborne half at the death.
Brixham beat Lydney 49-38 in an entertaining match that saw the sides share 11 tries.
Tom McLean and Tom Goodman gave the hosts a 14-0 lead inside the opening nine minutes.
Despite holding a 21-7 lead midway through the half, they allowed Lydney to hit back with three tries in 15 minutes to make it 2424 at half-time.
The second half was a different story, however, as two penalties and three tries gave Brixham an unassailable 49-24 lead.
It rendered Lydney’s final two tries nothing more than a consolation as they had to settle for just a point from the afternoon.
Bracknell fought back from ten points down to beat Cleve 28-10.
The visitors went 10-0 ahead in the first ten minutes as Bracknell looked like they weren’t really at the races.
However, they soon recovered and made it 13-10 at half-time before Ben Sanderson and Ian Burch went over in the second half to ensure the hosts went home happy.
Ivybridge resisted a late fightback from Newton
Abbot to win 25-18 away from home.
They led 17-0 at half-time and looked set to cruise to victory. However, the home side rallied to make it 17-12 after an hour. It was not to be, though, as a penalty and a try gave Ivybridge the points. Launceston condemned Bromsgrove to yet another defeat with a 27-22 success on the road. And Bournemouth were also victorious as they thrashed Dings Crusaders 47-15. Table-toppers Old Redcliffians extended their lead at the summit with a 24-10 win over Hornets.
