Addison backs prolific Solomona to shine if

STAND-IN Sale captain Will Addison has backed Denny Solomona to take his prolific try-scoring form to the next level if England or the Lions come calling.

Kiwi-born Solomona will be eligible for either team – unless World Rugby extend to the residency period ruling from three years to five – by the time they tour this summer.

The 24-year-old has been a sensation since his controvers­ial cross-code move from Castleford; last weekend’s 32nd-minute score against Newcastle took his tally for the season to six in seven appearance­s.

Addison said: “He’s been fantastic for us. You know that if you throw him the ball, nine times out of 10 he’ll score a try which is an incredible talent to have.

“He played most of last season for Castleford on the left wing and scored 42 tries and now he’s doing it on the right for us. He’s just one of those players who attracts those try-scoring chances.

“I think he could make an impact on the internatio­nal scene very quickly.”

Solomona’s strike-rate even puts the Premiershi­p’s top try-scorer, Christian Wade, in the shade. Both wear their respective No.14 jerseys today in one of the fascinatin­g match-ups.
