Harrogate sold short by costly mistakes

- ■ By BILL BARRACK

PROMOTION candidates Sale came from behind to defeat a Harrogate side who might have thought they should have more from the game.

In another close match, Harrogate were 10-7 up at the interval, but two cru- cial knock-on balls gifted Sale a pair of early secondhalf converted tries, which proved to be the difference.

Harrogate opened the scoring after good scrum ball was quickly spread to winger Oli Rosillo. His outside break found opposite winger Harry Barnard in support who scored an excellent team try converted by David Doherty.

The home pressure continued and forced Sale into conceding a penalty. Doherty’s kick made it 10-0 after 15 minutes.

Harrogate scrum-half Danny Matthews had to leave the field with an eye injury and Sale scored

almost instantly through centre Jack Moorhouse’s excellent individual try, which was converted by Liam McGovern.

Some sloppy play from the home side allowed Sale to score twice more. Firstly, a bad knock-on from a counter-attack created loose ball which was snapped up by Moorhouse for a converted try.

Minutes later, Sale standoff Chris Johnson picked up another Harrogate defensive knock-on for yet another converted try.

This proved to be the final scoring action of the game as Sale held out for the win.
