Terrific Dale are too hot for Otley to handle

- ■ By BRIAN TILLY

TYNEDALE produced some excellent rugby on their way to the six-try demolition of Otley.

After a shaky start, when they spent the first ten minutes pinned on their own line, Tynedale took a 12th minute lead following a good line-out move, winger Oli Walker eventually crossing.

They extended that four minutes later, this time scrum-half Dan Taylor getting the final touch to another line-out move.

A Tom Hodson penalty on 24 minutes got Otley on the scoresheet, before some dazzling running and handling started and finished by winger Rob Parker put Tynedale 15-3 up, Ash Smith landing his first conversion from three attempts.

Tynedale had the bonus point in the bag on 34 minutes through lock Graeme Dunn’s converted try, before Otley came back with a converted score of their own through prop George Burkinshaw to make it 24-10 at the break.

Tynedale extended their lead six minutes into the second half through flanker Joe Mills, Smith converting, but again Otley bounced back with a good score in the corner through winger Henry Roberts on the hour for 31-15.

Tynedale stretched away again on 63 minutes through a converted try by replacement back-rower Tom McCullough, but Otley had the last word five minutes before the end when skipper Freddie Watson powered over.
