Early charge puts Rams in control

- ■ By MATTHEW McCRORY

A STRONG opening half set the scene for Rams’ victory.

They were quickly knocking on the tryline and runs by Steve Bryant, Ben Henderson and Sean McDonnell-Roberts paved the way for Jordan Souter to break through, offloading to Ollie Foxley for the first try, converted by Jacob Atkins.

Rams didn’t trouble the scoreboard again until the final ten minutes of the half, in which Atkins bolstered their lead with two penalties and a highoctane intercept on Rams’ own tryline, making an 80-metre run and scoring an unconverted try for 180.

The second half told a separate story. Bury started to play a more open game and were rewarded with a quick try by Maku Koroiyadi, Scott Lyle added the extras.

Foxley found his second try at the end of Atkins’ chip immediately after that. Atkins kicked again, this time over the posts, to improve Rams’ third try of the afternoon.

Though eager to grab the bonus point, Rams failed to achieve it against a stellar Bury defence.

Instead, the visitors broke through on two occasions for tries by Shaq Meyers and Donovan O’Grady.

O’Grady, making his debut for Bury, converted both to leave them just four points short.
