Impressive RGC march on as Ravens fall short

- ■ By JAMES CANDY

RGC1404 have added a WRU National Cup quarter-final to their list of achievements in a breakthrough season after downing Bridgend Ravens 31-20 at the Brewery Field.

The North Walians led the way from the off as Jacob Botica and Tian Loots bagged first-half tries to give them a 17-13 lead at half-time, despite Joseph Scrivens crossing for the hosts.

Loots completed his double after the break before Ravens captain Adam O’Driscoll saw red, which proved to be a pivotal moment in the context of the game.

RGC capitalised on their numerical advantage to soar into an unassailable lead.

Jonny Kenny kept Brid- gend in the hunt, but it was too little, too late.

Botica and Scrivens traded penalties in the opening stages as they commenced their outside-half battle.

The former struck the first real blow when he pounced on his own charge down to score, before RGC flier Loots raced over to score.

Scrivens then picked off a pass in midfield to sprint home and get the hosts back in it at 17-13 at halftime.

But Loots’ second and a drive over score for the visotors gave the Parc Eirias side a 31-13 advantage after O’Driscoll saw red for a high tackle.

Kenny grabbed a consolation but it was not enough for the Ravens to advance to the final eight. Star man Tian Loots - RGC 1404
