Seventh heaven for record-breaker Kay

- ■ By SAM JACKSON

KAY Wilson scored a record-breaking seven tries as England humiliated Scotland to line up a Grand Slam decider against Ireland next week.

The Red Roses, who are looking for their first Six Nations title since 2012, scored 12 tries in total with Amy Cokayne also scoring a hat-trick and Danielle Waterman and Emily Scarratt getting one each.

With Ireland failing to pick up the bonus-point in Cardiff earlier, England will go into next week’s clash sitting at the top of the table but only a win will do with the two sides both gunning for a Grand Slam.

“We’re thrilled with that performance, some of it was sublime at times,” said England head coach Simon Middleton.

"We wanted to play with intensity and tempo and we had a clear picture about what we wanted to do. For 65 minutes of the game that’s exactly what we did.

“We finished really well after we had lost our way a little bit and that’s really important showing that we can do that as a side.”

Wilson began the scoring in the third minute from a Scarratt pass and she had her second four minutes later when she was released by Harriet Millar-Mills.

Scotland No.8 Gemma Forsyth was sent to the sin bin in the 11th minute and soon after, Cokayne was on the back of a driving maul to score her first. She crossed again on 20 minutes to secure England’s bonus point.

Waterman was then on the end of a flowing move three-minutes later to continue her fine record in the competition, 25 tries in 25 Championship matches.

Wilson sealed her hattrick in the 26th minute after receiving a long pass from Amber Reed and she showed her finishing instincts seven-minutes later to become the first player to score four firsthalf tries in the Women’s Six Nations.

Cokayne scored her third on the stroke of half-time after charging down a kick to become the second front row to score a hat-trick in the history of the Women’s Six Nations.

It was the first time since 2002 that a team had ran in eight tries in the first half of a Women’s Six Nations match.

Wilson started the second period in the same vein as she raced away to cross for her fifth try five minutes after the break.

And on the hour mark the Richmond wing became the first player to score six tries in a Women’s Six Nations match when she received another pass from Scarratt, her fourth assist to Wilson of the afternoon.

Scarratt crossed five minutes from time following an Alex Matthews offload before Wilson completed the scoring.
