Warriors close to O’Connor deal

-

FORMER WALLABY star James O’Connor looks set to be heading to the Premiership next season and is close to agreeing a deal to join

Worcester Warriors. The shamed Toulon star will face Ligue Nationale de Rugby’s discipline and rules commission on March 29 over his alleged possession of cocaine. O’Connor was arrested along with former All Black Ali Williams and is set for talks with Toulon owner Mourad Boudjellal to discuss his options. The 26 year-old was fined after being held outside a nightclub near the Champs Elysees last month but it appears to have done his career no harm. The Warriors have been looking for a flyhalf for the last year and now they have been speaking to O’Connor it’s a sign that a move for Ian Keatley is off.

Keatley has been having talks with the Warriors but has been unable to agree a deal after they changed their contract offer at the last minute.

O’Connor, who can play full back, wing and centre, had a season with London Irish before going to Toulon in 2015. He has also had talks with Bristol.

But it would appear that the Warriors are close to doing a deal with the ex-Western Force, Melbourne Rebels and Queensland Reds man.

Meanwhile the Warriors are close to agreeing a deal that will see lock Donncha O’Callaghan extend his career for another 12 months.

The 37 year-old Irish legend joined the Warriors in 2015 and is having talks about staying on at Sixways for next season.
