Cov do double over Cambridge

- ■ By STEVE JACKSON

COVENTRY came away with the points and a season double over Cambridge but were made to work hard by Ross Stewart’s side in a game that turned just after the halfhour.

And two try-saving yellow cards didn’t hurt either as Rowland Winter made a winning return to Grantchester Road.

Cambridge gave up a couple of early scores, with Tom Howe and Max Trimble both touching down.

The Blood & Sand fought back though as prop Ben Ibrahim dived over, Dan Lewis missing from the tee.

Then Mike Ayrton touched down for Cambridge, only to see the score ruled out with Cov benefiting from an interception on their own 22 from the resulting play.

Howe ran in from his own half, Will Maisey converted and added a penalty to boot.

George Furbank reduced the deficit, Dan Lewis converting, and Lewis knocked over a penalty at the start of the second half.

Rob Knox brought up the try bonus for Cov, Trimble added his second and at 36-15 they looked home and hosed.

Cameron Ruddock and Tom Trotter had other ideas, but Cambridge had to settle for just the fourtry bonus point in another game that could have yielded much more.
