Hinckley safe after trio of tries down Lucs

- ■ By BEN JAMES

AN EARLY try from former All Blacks international Scott Hamilton set Hinckley to a bonus point win over Luctonians at Leicester Road.

Tries from Hamilton, Alexander Salt, Ewen Bartlett and Benjamin Marshall helped the hosts send Luctonians back to Herefordshire with nothing and ensured that they are now safe from relegation.

It took just two minutes for Hamilton to open the scoring as the twice-capped Kiwi crossed following a flowing backs move, although Joseph Wilson failed to add the extras. Luctonians wing John Morris opened his side’s account from the tee on 15 minutes before putting them in front on the half hour mark with another penalty.

But Hinckley were back in front at half-time as

back-rower Salt forced his way over from close distance on 38 minutes, with Wilson adding the conversion. The beginning of the second-half was a carbon copy of the first as Hinckley took two minutes again to bag their third try as prop Bartlett was on hand to finish off. Fellow frontrower Joseph White grabbed a consolation try for Luctonians on the hour mark before second-row Marshall drove his way over from a maul to secure the bonus point for Hinckley. With ten minutes remaining, Wilson added a penalty to kill off any hopes of a comeback.
