Hawks fly high as Raiders downed

- ■ By JOHN HARRISON

HENLEY Hawks ran in seven tries as they powered to victory over Worthing Raiders in a high-scoring affair at Dry Leas.

Full-back Alan Awcock and flanker Scott White both bagged doubles, with Tom Hall, David Hyde and Joe Butler also crossing for the visitors.

Henley were the quickest out of the blocks and dominated the first half, with Hall, White, Awcock and Hyde all scoring, Butler landing three conversions, without a response from Raiders.

Worthing restored some pride through flanker Jonathan Whittall, who crashed over one minute from the break – Mathew McLean adding the extras.

Henley seized the initiative early in the second period through Awcock’s second try, converted by Liam O’Neill. However, Worthing did not roll over as Joe Watson-Brooks crossed for the hosts’ second score, McLean again converting.

Any hopes of a Worthing comeback were dashed through converted scores from Butler and White, but Hawks salvaged a bonus point with two scores later on.

Watson-Brooks crossed with 20 minutes left, McLean missing the conversion, before wing Finlay Coxon-Smith scoring nine minutes from time, with McLean again missing.
