Fraser treble lifts Taunton up table

- ■ By KEITH BROOKING

HYDE Park played host to an entertaining game but Taunton Titans were just too good and got the better of London Irish Wild Geese.

Titans opened the scoring with a Gary Kingdon penalty before the first try went to London Irish with prop Kerry O’Sullivan going over after a couple of great breaks by scrum-half Thomas Baker.

But Titans hit back with a try from Freddie Fraser, finishing superbly from the Irish ten metre line – Kingdom kicking the conversion before adding a penalty.

Wild Geese winger George Owen then showed great pace after soft Titans defence to outpace the cover and make the half-time score 13-10.

Early in the second period Titans’ Dan Frost was sent to the sin bin before Oliver Turner kicked a penalty for Irish. But Titans then took control with Tim Thompson scoring out wide before Fraser got his second with Kingdom converting.

Irish then mauled over with Karl Gibson claiming the try, Turner converting, but that was a close as they got with 15 minutes to play.

Fraser scored his hattrick try with one of the tries of the season before Nick Mason intercepted and dived under the posts – Kingdom converted both scores.
