- By JAMES LLOYD

THE champagne remains on ice for Pontypool after their 18-game league winning run was brought to a dramatic halt by Cardiff Met.

The Students ran out 3017 victors over Pooler who simply needed a victory to secure the Championship crown. Luke Northcrossed twice for Met, with fullback Tyler Williams chipping in 13 points from the boot. So Leighton Jones’ men will look to scoop the title when they take on Glamorgan Wanderers next weekend.

At the other end of the table, Dunvant are the first team to be relegated after they were thumped 73-17 by Narberth.

The basement boys did take the lead with early tries for Mark Robbins and Sam Evans. But Narberthhit back with Jack Price running in a double hat-trick. Dewi Wiliams scored a brace

with Liam, Joe Hutchings and Gethin Gibby also scoring. Newcastle Emlyn secured a first-half bonus point as they beat

Bedlinog in a mid-table clash. Dan Davies dotted down twice for the hosts with Alex Williams and Llyr Davies scoring tries before the break. The Foxes offered resistance, but Brynmor Jones ensured the hosts won.

Beddau and Tata Steel both lost ground to Narberth following defeats against Glynneath and Glamorgan

Wanderers respectively. Beddau had led 18-7 at half-time following tries from Jay Harris and Marcus Jones, but the visitors clawed their way back with Leon Ward scoring eight minutes from time.

Glamorgan were made to hang on against Tata after Darren Ryan’s second-half red card for a spear tackle. A strong first-half effort proved decisive with Luke Fish and Tom Penri Evans scoring tries. Fish added the extras.

Skewen slipped down three places after losing 29-13 to Newbridge.
