Griffiths goes to Paris in bid for Steyn

-

WORCESTER WARRIORS have held talks with Springbok fly-half Morne Steyn about moving to Sixways Stadium from the start of next season.

The Warriors have been trying desperately to sign a top class fly-half since the end of last season and have held talks with a number of players.

Moves for Toby Flood and Ian Keatley fell through at the last minute after both players were close to agreeing personal terms with the club.

And the club opted not to pursue a move for disgraced Wallaby James O’Connor after holding some initial discussions with the Toulon ace.

Warriors consultant Edward Griffiths, the former Saracens CEO, travelled to Paris last week to hold talks about Stade Francais star Steyn, 32.

Steyn, below, the leading scorer at the 2011 Rugby World Cup, moved to the French capital in 2013 from the Bulls and is out of contract at the end of the season.

It was thought he could end his career in Japan but the Warriors could be his next stop, a clear sign that Griffiths and Gary Gold are now in charge of planning for next season.

Meanwhile Blindside understands the Warriors are close to agreeing terms with highly-rated back Ryan Mills who is out of contract at the end of the season. A number of clubs including Wasps were keeping tabs on Mills, 24, but it has been suggested to me that he is ready to put pen to paper on a new deal with the Warriors.
