Stubborn Blues fall short to in-form Albion

- ■ By MATT COLERIDGE

PLYMOUTH secured their tenth straight league win with success on the road against Macclesfield.

The visitors appeared lifted after their valiant loss to Moseley the week before.

An early try from Albion’s Sam Daly made it look like it would go to form but the home side hit back with a bit of magic from Elliot Brierley.

The Blues had to endure long spells of possession by the visitors but showed good defiance throughout despite being pegged back in attack.

Plymouth went ahead again through Harry Strong before the hosts got good go-forward via Ryan Parkinson and moments later a penalty was awarded with Lewis Barker successfully kicking the three points.

Plymouth looked stronger after the break as they targeted the collision in the carry.

But it was the Cheshire side who took the lead after Matt King chased down his own kick.

A series of scrums for the home team in the red zone then came to nothing except a yellow card for Albion.

But when Tom Eaton dropped a ball onto the feet of winger Robin WedlakeMillcam he ran it in to give Albion a 21-18 lead with just eight minutes of the game remaining.

Macclesfield spent the remainder of the match deep inside the Plymouth 22 having scrums and lineouts to force the win but were unable to get over.
