PONTYPOOL sealed the Championship crown after they beat Glamorgan

Wanderers 23-3. Pooler had the opportunity to win the title last weekend, but they were humbled by a resurgent Cardiff Met.

There were no mistakes on Saturday though, as tries from Gareth Rusby-Davies, Ben Parry and Callum Davies secured the victory meaning Pooler scooped their first piece of silverware since winning the Division 1 East title in 2008.

Parry’s score took Leighton Jones’ men over 700 points for the season and proved to be their 100th try of the campaign.

Beddau snatched victory at the death in a thriller with basement boys Dunvant, the visitors’ win keeps their hopes of finishing third in the division alive.

Dunvant – who are already relegated – had led 29-20 after tries from Adam Williams, Danny Davies, Josh Cuggy and Jamie Nicholas but a pushover try from the Beddau pack closed the gap to four, and with the last play of the match replacement centre Steve Thompson crossed to steal it.

Narberth ensured they would finish the season in second place after they beat

Tata Steel 25-14. Shaun Jenkins, Rhys Lane and Liam Hutchings all crossed for tries with Jonathan Rogers kicking ten points from the tee for the Otters.

At the other end of the table, six teams mathematically can still go down along with Dunvant.

Skewen, who were fifth only two weeks ago, plunged further towards the drop after they lost 14-11 against Newcastle Emlyn – who are now safe.

Newbridge occupy the final relegation spot after they were edged out 18-14 against Glynneath. Bedlinog sit above them in the league as Cardiff Met beat them 19-11 at The Rec. The Students continue to creep away from the relegation places.
