Anscombe signs new deal with Cardiff

- ALEX BYWATER

GARETH Anscombe will give Cardiff Blues a major boost by signing a fresh deal with the region.

Anscombe’s National Dual Contract with the Blues and the Welsh Rugby Union, which is 60 per cent funded by the governing body, runs out at the end of this season.

But the New Zealandborn fly-half, who has won nine caps for Wales since his switch from the Chiefs in 2014, will put to pen to paper on a new deal in the next few weeks.

The 25-year-old for All Black U20 will be with the capital region next season and is expected to sign a fresh contract keeping him with the Blues until at least 2019.

Anscombe has struggled to challenge Dan Biggar for the Wales fly-half shirt but both Blues head coach Danny Wilson and the Wales hierarchy remain big fans and he remains in contention for Wales’ two-Test summer tour to face Tonga and Samoa
