Lions are roaring against plucky Hinckley

- ■ By MIKE HOWKINS

LEICESTER Lions claimed local bragging rights with a comfortable one-sided win against Hinckley.

Jonathan Boden got the hosts off to a great start by weaving through several tackles to score a fine try, before Danny Hartwell went over after a nice, flowing move – as Hinckley were cut to shreds.

Soon after, the Lions put Hinckley under pressure and Hartwell charged through to score his second of the match, converted by Boden, as it threatened to get out of hand.

And from there it only got better, as Benjamin Marfo slipped the ball to Devon Constant who then fed the ball to Alex Smit for a great try.

Persistent play by Hinckley got them back in it towards the end of the first half, with Alex Crocker finding a hole in the Lions’ defence and Joe Wilson adding the conversion.

Hinckley continued to fight back after the break with a forward drive producing a try for Alex Salt.

But the Lions found another gear and soon wrapped it up, as centre Luke Veebel carved through the Hinckley defence to score a try, with Boden adding the conversion.

Hinckley pushed forwards, desperate to find a way back into the contest, but they were hurt twice more by Leicester’s flowing rugby.

Benjamin and Constant both crossed for their second tries of the match, finishing it off in style for the hosts.
