Geese come back and are still alive

- ■ By BILL HOOPER

BEN Kitchen’s conversion of George Drye’s try in time added on proved to be the match-winning kick and give Wild Geese five valuable points in their battle to avoid the drop.

Redruth could have no complaints as the visitors competed valiantly for the full 80 unlike the Reds who seemed strangely off for long periods.

Redruth had the first chance of points in the game when Joe Elderrkin’s penalty attempt from half-way struck the outside of the post.

Wild Geese got on the scoreboard soon after when winger Matt Killeen crossed for an unconverted try.

Redruth drew level from a Tommy Phillips try, Elderkin’s fine conversion nudging them ahead. Phillips was at it again just before halftime finishing off a fine forward drive with Elderkin converting.

Early in the second half Redruth moved further ahead when replacement BJ Chapman, fed by Elderkin, romped in for the Reds’ third try with the young fly-half again adding the conversion.

Redruth seemed set to record a good win but not a bit of it, back came Wild Geese with three tries in the final quarter from Tyler Bush, George Owen and Drye with Kitchen’s final kick of the game sealing a fine comeback win.
