KARMICHAEL Hunt impressed on his first outing to help the Wallabies cruise to an easy victory in Melbourne.

The former rugby league international and top-flight Australian Rules footballer, 30, spent the week training at full-back but had to start at 12 due to late injuries.

Hunt became the second ‘triple code’ player in Michael Cheika’s starting side, with fellow former Brisbane Bronco Israel Folau having also played top-flight Aussie Rules.

With Kurtley Beale rested for the June series and Samu Kerevi injured, Hunt took his chance with a composed debut, defending fiercely and linking well with his team mates.

“He got a few carries, his defence was good and he was aggressive,” Cheika said. “I think for his first outing he was pretty handy.”

Folau also enjoyed a breakthrough of his own against Fiji, scoring a trydouble to end a run of 11 matches without crossing since last year’s June series against England.

Folau and Henry Speight scored a try each in the first 10 minutes while fly-half Bernard Foley kicked a penalty and a conversionfor a 15-point lead.

Folau was sin-binned in the 19th minute but Fiji failed to capitalise and a second penalty from Foley saw the half end 18-0.

Folau scored again after half-time and it was not until aftrer the hour mark that Fiji finally got on the board through a Vereniki Goneva try. Timoci Nagusa scored their second try in the 76th minute, with late touchdowns from Stephen Moore and Speight’s second ensuring a 23 point victory.
