Robson gearing up for an explosive finale

-

WALES U20s fly-half Arwel Robson is determined to finish the Championship on a high following Tuesday’s devastating 29-25 defeat to Scotland.

Robson converted his own try with ten minutes to go to edge his side 25-22 in front, but a last-ditch effort saw Darcy Graham snatch it for the Scots.

Captain Will Jones and Ioan Nicholas were the other try scorers for Wales, who were outscored four tries to three with Graham’s earlier score combining with efforts from Ross McCann and captain Callum Hunter-Hill.

Wales will now take on Italy today in a bid to end the tournament in seventh place, while Scotland will battle Australia for fifth place.

Robson said: “The boys are just absolutely gutted with the end of that game.

“We must have gone through 10-15 phases and for them to score in the last few minutes is heart-breaking. But it is about being positive, keeping our heads up and going out with a bang against Italy.

“Personally it’s going to be a massive game against Italy and I want to finish on a high, it will be the last time I pull on a 20s jersey and I want to make sure I leave everything out there.”

Unlucky not to be in the semi-finals after a last-gasp defeat to England in the Pool, Australia left nothing to chance with a hat-trick from Izaia Perese sending them on their way to a 42-19 win over Italy.

Determined to put three Pool losses behind them and cast aside the spectre of relegation, 2016 runners-up

Ireland scored eight tries to beat Samoa 52-26.

Samoa, who returned to the competition only this year after winning the Trophy in 2016, will have to beat Argentina in the relegation match after the Pumas were stunned by

Georgia in their play-off. The hosts, who had Test scrum-half Gela Aprasidze kick 16 points off the tee, had to survive a late scare but they held on to secure a 26-25 victory.
