Cross link puts Mose on track for promotion

- NEALE HARVEY

MOSELEY’S National One title bid will be boosted by some of Worcester’s top young talent next season.

New head coach Simon Cross, who doubles as breakdown coach at Worcester, says relations between the clubs are much stronger as Moseley start life under a new regime following the departure of Kevin Maggs.

Cross said: “My job is to continue the good work Kevin’s done and the link between Moseley and Worcester is a big part of it.

“Our partnership is growing and that can only be good for the clubs. There’s a lot of coaching experience available to Moseley and there’s also a great opportunity for young players to put themselves in front of Worcester coaches playing at a high level.

“If they’ve got ambitions to play at Premiership level they’ll need to take those chances and I’m delighted to act as the go-between.”

Coventry will be huge favourites for the National One title after spending heavily on players and coaches, but Cross said: “Coventry have a massive budget by comparison but there are a few others who could cause surprises and you’d expect ourselves and teams like Plymouth, Ampthill and Rosslyn Park to have more of a say.”

With his Worcester hat on, Cross expects the Sixways outfit to improve on their 11th place finish.

He added: “We could have finished higher but with five guys being asked to train with England and Ben Te’o with the Lions, suddenly Worcester are on the map.”
