Saracens just short of getting ton up in Caribbean

-

SARACENS kicked-off their pre-season calendar in style, running in 14 tries against the USA Islanders invitational team in Bermuda on Thursday evening.

In a free-scoring game that included three hattricks for Chris Wyles, Henry Taylor and Nathan Earle, Sarries were able to give debuts to summer signings Calum Clark, Dominic Day and Christopher Tolofua.

Kieran Longbottom, who has returned to the club from Sale Sharks, also featured.

The European champions crossed for their first try inside the opening ten minutes through winger Mike Ellery.

Max Malins got the second and Tom Griffiths went over on the half hour in-between Wyles’ first two tries of the game to give Sarries a 29-0 lead going into the break.

After the interval Saracens stepped up a gear and continued to control matters with new signing Tolofua’s bulldozing run with his first touch in a Saracens jersey a particular highlight.

Taylor and Earle both secured their second half hat-tricks before Alex Lozowski rounded off a fine team move, collecting a Jackson Wray offload after Schalk Burger showed some slight of hand in the build up.

In the dying minutes of the game Ben Earl raced away to score before Earle’s third of the evening completed a good team run out with areas to build on. Star man Chris Wyles - Saracens
