ENGLAND claimed a second consecutiv­e ten-try win as they beat Italy 56-13 in their second pool game of the World Cup in Ireland last Sunday.

England got their first try after ten minutes when captain for the day Emily Scarratt went over with Alex Matthews, Lydia Thompson and Amy Cokayne also crossing the line as England secured the try bonus point before half-time with a 22-8 lead.

Tamara Taylor and Amy Wilson-Hardy both got over early in the second half while Danielle Waterman, with a brace, Scarratt and Thompson all scored to seal victory.

Wales came close to upsetting the odds against Canada but ten points from Magali Harvey and a try from Lori Josephson secured the 2014 finalists a 15-0 win.

Buoyed by their valiant efforts against New Zealand, Rowland Phillips’ side were determined to get on the right side of the result and they weren’t far off at the break, trailing only 7-0 after Josephson’s try.

They pushed to get on the scoreboard in the second half but a penalty from Harvey and then a long-range try got Canada home.

Superstar wing Portia Woodman made history by becoming the first player to score eight tries in a Test mach as New Zealand demolished

Hong Kong 121-0. The Black Ferns took just 52 seconds to open the scoring with Carla Hohepa shrugging off a tackle to run in from 30 metres.

Another 18 tries followed with Woodman, a Sevens specialist, showing how lethal she can be as she went on to beat England’s Kay Wilson and her seven tries against Scotland in the last Six Nations.

France took control of Pool C with a 48-0 win over

Australia which set up the decider against Ireland who were once again laborious in their 24-14 win over Japan.

In England’s pool, the USA also made it two from two with a one-sided six-try 43-0 victory over Spain.
