Fylde are smashed for six by rampant visitors

- ■ By HENRY WOODSFORD

OLD Elthamians earned their first win of the season, scoring six tries against an abject Fylde side at the Woodlands.

The visitors got the scoring underway after only three minutes as Harry Ledger finished out wide after cutting inside off a Joe Carlisle pass, with Carlisle adding the extras.

Fylde responded quickly through Connor Wilkinson after the centre capitilised on Dominic Lespierre’s error. The Elthamians’ winger dived onto Greg Smith’s grubber kick five metres out but his momentum meant the ball popped up and Wilkinson was quickest to react.

The hard-working Fylde pack ensured the hosts had good field position, but they failed to capitalise on this and squandered several scoring opportunities, which came back to haunt them in the half ’s final act.

Against the run of play, Elthamians bagged their second try through Kieran Moffat, who spotted a hole in Fylde’s backline to race in from 20 yards.

Elthamians bossed the second period and Sam Egerton touched down from a lineout and Carlisle maintained his perfect record from the tee.

With Fylde chasing the game, they left plenty of gaps in their defensive line, and Elthamians had their bonus-point try through the impressive Carlisle after 53 minutes.

Further scores from Moffat and Lespierre added gloss to the scoreline.
