Nothing phases Maisey’s final kick

- ■ By JOHN WILKINSON

FLY-HALF Will Maisey kicked a stoppage time penalty to edge Coventry to their sixth straight win in a nervy finish at Butts Park Arena.

The visitors went in front after just two minutes, taking advantage of some weak home defence to put Chris Smith over for a try which George Cullen converted.

Cov replied with a James Stokes try after a superb break by Sam Tuitupou, but almost immediately Cullen kicked a penalty for 10-5 to the visitors.

Tuitupou pounced for an opportunist try, converted by Maisey, but the visitors retook through Cullen’s boot.

Cov were back in front two minutes later, a Stokes break leading to a try for Anthony Matoto which Maisey converted from wide out.

But after a lengthy stoppage following an injury to Pete White, Cullen’s third penalty closed out the half at 1916 to the hosts.

A Rory Banks try restored the Stortford advantage before an exchange of penalties between Maisey and Cullen left the visitors two points to the good deep inside the final quarter, but Stokes raced in for his second try to put Cov back on top at 27-24.

Cullen tied the scores with his fifth penalty but Maisey landed the deciding kick to win the game.
